Medical experts? in Dubai are urging parents to protect their children’s sight over the scorching summer months.
Eye doctors at Moorfields Eye Hospital warned UV rays are harmful to their vision and that the risk from these rays is particularly high at this time of year.
Dr Chris Canning, Medical Director at the hospital, said: “Without protection, there is increasing evidence that UV exposure is associated with eye problems much later in life, such as cataracts.”
According to the Eyecare Trust, the human eye is more sensitive to UV rays than skin, and children’s eyes are at greater risk because clearer lenses mean up to 70 per cent more UV light hits the retina.
Among the advice given is to wear quality sunglasses and a brimmed hat and ensure they fit well.
