Dubai Police has vowed to crack down on human trafficking at the start of a two-day forum tackling the issue.
The Foundation for Women and Children and representatives from the police met yesterday to discuss the problem in the UAE.
“We are seeking the co-operation of different countries to curb this crime and are enhancing our efforts to catch the criminals perpetrating the act,” said Dr Ghaith Ghanim Saif Al Suwaidi, deputy director of legal and disciplinary department in Dubai Police, He said there had been 17 human trafficking cases so far this year. Many of the victims had now returned to their home countries.
He said a lot of factors are contributing to human trafficking including poverty, illiteracy and the involvement of mafia. he vowed police will do all they can to end this organised crime.
