Dubai: A food awareness campaign at supermarkets is being stepped up from the start of Ramadan following a spate of poisoning cases.
Dubai Municipality said special counters will be opened in stores to educate people about safe food handling practices.
The campaign follows the death of five children due to suspected food poisoning in the last three months in the UAE.
Officials from the food control section of the municipality held a meeting with supermarket representatives yesterday in order to outline the strategy.
Leaflets will be distributed to people and special sessions will be held with housewives to answer their queries on food safety.
