Man dies in traffic accident

A pedestrian was killed by a car as he crossed a road at an unauthorised spot.

According to Salah Bu Farousha, the head of Traffic Prosecution, the accident happened on Khawaneej Road near Musharaf Prak at 6.35pm on Saturday.

He said the pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was crossing the road when he was struck and died at the scene. He said the driver of the car, who is Indian, had not been paying attention to the road.

“The driver caused the death of the victim and he is in custody while we investigate,” Bu Farousha said.

Ambulance staff and police patrols were called to the scene and traffic prosecution has asked the police for a technical report.

They are also checking the car’s brakes.

The speed limit on the road has already been cut to 80kph due to previous fatalities.
