The role of women has changed dramatically since the foundation of the United Arab Emirates, according to a women’s rights campaigner.
The president of the national Family Development Foundation, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, said yesterday that the last 38 years has seen the role of Arab women transform from homemaker to policy maker.
Mubarak, who is the chairman of the Arab Women’s Union, said: “Since the establishment of the federation, UAE women have managed to carve out a niche and to impress the whole world.”
She added: “It is enough to say that the UAE women are no longer busy claiming their rights, but exercising them.”
