Girl snatched

A Dubai policeman whose teenage daughter was dragged into a car by two men caught one of her kidnappers after following them in a high-speed car chase.

Documents presented to Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday describe how the 13-year-old girl was bundled into a car outside her home in broad daylight as her father looked on in horror.

In court records her dad said: “I was waiting in the garage for my daughter and our housemaid to join me when a car stopped in front of my house and one man opened the door, grabbed my daughter and pushed the housemaid away. I was shocked.”

The father, who is Emirati, then gave chase to the kidnappers and pursued them for up to half an hour.

He added: “The car was driving fast so I chased it and kept hitting it from behind until I managed to force them to stop.”

One of the men escaped but he detained the other.

“I didn’t chase him because I wanted to make sure that my daughter was ok,” the father said. “I detained the driver and called the police. My daughter is now suffering from psychological problems because of what happened to her.”

His daughter said in the records that she was scared when a stranger dragged her into the car. “I saw a car stop near me and then a man pulled me into it and I started yelling,” she said. She also told how the car was swerving as they fled.

“It was hitting the pavement and someone was hitting us from behind until the car finally stopped. Then my father saved me. The doors were locked and I couldn’t get out,” she said.

The defendant failed to appear yesterday and the case was adjourned. Dubai Public Prosecution said he claimed during interview the other kidnapper asked him to stop near the girl’s house and he was surprised when his friend pulled her into the vehicle.

The other suspect is at large and will be tried in absence.
