Find friend’s killer

A French woman is seeking witnesses to her friend’s murder after she was plunged into a “nightmare of suspicion” following the killing in a Dubai car park.

“It was unimaginable. Her brother thought I knew more than I did. The police were asking me all these ugly questions. It was really like a terrible nightmare,” said the woman, who was the last person to speak to Dominique Van Der Lienden before she was murdered outside Ibn Battuta Mall on Friday, February 27.

Dominique’s last words to her friend had them agreeing to meet each other in less than five minutes in the mall.

However, Dominique never arrived and her husband later found her stabbed to death in the mall’s car park.

Seven months on it is still unclear who killed her.

The woman, who lives in the US was visiting Dubai, and said she was “delirious” and “traumatised” after seeing her friend lying on the ground, with Dominique’s husband, Robert, trying to give her CPR.

Later, she was taken to a police station, where she was questioned for several hours and held overnight.

She later tried to fly home but she was detained at the airport. “I was taken back to the police station and asked many times why I was trying to leave Dubai,” she said.

Eventually a US politician intervened on her behalf and the US consulate helped her leave Dubai.

The woman, who asked not to be named, had worked with Dominique in Mauritius and had come to visit her.

Dominique had gone to the gym in Ibn Battuta mall on the morning of the killing while her friend went shopping.

They were due to meet in the mall so when Dominique failed to arrive, her friend called her husband, who found his wife dead in her car.

A reward of dhs50,000 has been offered by Robert for information leading to the killer’s capture.
