A woman who wandered into the desert after an argument with her boyfriend was forced to leap from a speeding car after she was picked up by a teenager and sexually assaulted.
The British woman, in her 20s, had been camping overnight with her boyfriend in Hatta when their row took place, Dubai Court of First Instance was told.
“We spent the night in the camp and in the morning started arguing. I was angry so left the site at 8am,” the woman said in court records.
She then walked for 6km through the sand dunes until she was given a lift to the main road on a quad bike by another camper.
A car with two young Emiratis then stopped to pick her up.
“I searched for a taxi but I couldn’t find one. Two youths passed me in their Nissan Patrol vehicle and offered me a ride. They told me that they could drop me in Dubai so I jumped in,” she said.
“I was exhausted and tired so I fell sleep. When we reached Mirdif one of them asked if he could have sex with me for half an a hour. I refused.”
She told them she would pay for the ride but the teenager got in the back seat with her. “He started touching my body and kissed me. I was asking the driver to help me but he did nothing and kept quiet,” she said.
“I kept trying to push him off and managed to open the door and jump from the vehicle while it was still moving. They didn’t stop.”
The teenager who is accused of sexually molesting her is under 18 years old and was referred to the Minors Court.
The 18-year-old driver of the car has denied criminal abetting and wrongly harming the victim.
The victim escaped with no serious injuries following the ordeal in October 2008, but it took her 20 days to recover.
The case has been adjourned for the defence to be prepared.
