Crew set to see families

Crew members of a Dubai-based ship hijacked by pirates off Somalia in mid-April are set to be re-united with their families within days.

The announcement came after the MV Pompei arrived in port in Salalah, Oman, yesterday.

The vessel’s Dutch captain and crew of two Belgians, three Filipinos and four Croatians are to return home by plane, with the skipper and Belgians due to arrive in Brussels early today, the Belgian government said.

The crew had been building the palm islands off the Dubai coast for more than a year when they were hijacked on their way to South Africa to complete a project to widen a harbour.
