Twenty-two people from the United Arab Emirates have undergone specialist training on tackling human trafficking.
The taskforce was sent to Belarus by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, where the group attended a training programme organised by the International Training Centre on Migration and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings.
Representatives of various government institutions, inclu-ding the General Headquarters of the UAE Armed Forces, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Social Affairs and Ewa’a, the victims’ shelter in Abu Dhabi, attended the two-week course.
Dr Anwar Gargash, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Chairman of the National Committee to Com-bat Human Trafficking, said the training highlights the cou-ntry’s commitment to fighting human trafficking.
Topics covered included the problems faced by the Public Prosecution authorities in pursuing individuals and groups involved in human trafficking; and the judicial measures relating to the crime.
Gargash said: “Our main priorities are to develop the human aspects in the campaign against human trafficking.
We have taken concerted measures to enhance awareness about this crime against humanity and are focused on learning and knowledge of other countries.”
