A boozed-up British expat has been arrested after being caught on camera exposing himself to a woman waiting for a lift.

A source at Dubai Public Prosecution said the man had drunk a bottle of vodka and had no recollection of the incident when he was arrested.

However, CCTV cameras at the building where it happened, Sadaf 7 in Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), recorded the incident.

Prosecutors said a 50-year-old Lebanese woman was returning to her flat in JBR at about 1am on March 29 when she saw the 37-year-old man, who works in advertising, standing near the lifts.

“When he saw me, he immediately unzipped his trousers,” the woman said in a statement. “He was swearing in English and made some shameful gestures. He even tried to attack me, but I yelled and ran away.”

The woman returned with a Pakistani security guard, at which time the defendant had begun riding up and down in the elevator.

The guard called the police, who arrested the Brit.

In police interview the expat, who has lived in Dubai for two years, said he had been to Abu Dhabi, where he had drunk a bottle of vodka at the Emirates Palace hotel.

“I don’t know what happened after that,” he said, adding that the next thing he remembers was being in the police station.

“I live in the building but don’t remember insulting anyone or behaving indecently.”

The 43-year-old security guard told police: “He was totally drunk and the victim told him she would call the police and he insulted her and then start dancing and making strange gestures by putting his hands to his head and waving them, just like they do in cartoons.”

The Brit has been charged with indecency and insulting the woman and the case has been referred to the courts for a date to be set for his trial.
If found guilty, he could face up to a year in prison followed by deportation.
