Dubai’s new metro will feature a raft of measures to ensure it is accessible to people with special needs, a senior official has promised.
Mattar Al Tayer, the chairman of the board and executive director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), made his comments as the RTA was honoured by The Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre for the Treatment and Care of Children for its support of persons with special needs.
He said the design of the Dubai Metro project had been made to address the needs of people with special needs, including its lifts, escalators, cashpoints and train doors, as well as special bays for wheelchairs fitted with safety belts.
He said: “Dubai Metro is fitted with high definition audio-visual PA systems to serve all passengers, particularly those with special needs… An integrated set of facilities are in place to meet the needs of various types of disability spanning from the station up to the train carriage.”
Fittings also include audio-visual directional systems and special flooring to aid the visually impaired.
