A faultless display from Dan Carter made sure New Zealand firmly put the boot in to Australia in their fourth and final meeting of the year.
The All Blacks overpowered the Wallabies 32-19 in the Bledisloe Cup clash, with fly-half Carter scoring 22 points of those points.
Cool Carter’s display inspired the All Blacks to a seventh straight test win over their trans-Tasman rivals.
New Zealand romped home, scoring two tries to one, with Carter converting both tries and landing six penalties to pass 200 Test points against Australia.
The All Blacks had destroyed Australia 33-6 in an explosive Tri-Nations sign-off six weeks ago but were pushed harder by the Wallabies in front of a crowd of 44,000 in Tokyo. And coach Graham Henry said: “It’s pleasing to be 4-0 against the Wallabies this year. It’s not a personal thing - it’s a win-loss thing. “And it’s great to have momentum going into the European tour.”
Two early penalties from Matt Giteau put Australia in front, but New Zealand hit back when winger Sitiveni Sivivatu scored the game’s first try midway through the first half.
However, Sivivatu was then sin-binned for wiping out Peter Hynes and his absence had swift consequences as a wide-open Hynes dived in at the corner moments later.
Giteau converted to give the Wallabies a 16-13 half-time advantage they should have extended after being camped on the All Blacks’ line at the end of the first half. And the Kiwis made them pay as Conrad Smith burst through after a hand-off from Carter to put his side back in the lead.
Carter’s left boot landed four more penalties to stretch the lead as the All Blacks wore down the Australians in the second half. And Aussie skipper Rocky Elsom conceded: “I couldn’t fault our guys for their effort but it wasn't good enough.”
