KARACHI: Twenty-one people were killed and over 50 hurt in separate incidents as heavy downpour lashed the city on Saturday, marking the start of rainy monsoon season.
A mother and two children are among the people who lost their lives.
According to police, in Baldia town a roof of a house caved in, injuring Rabia Khatoon, 28, her daughter Aisha, 4 and son Umer, aged 7. They were rushed to Civil Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
Similar incident in Orangi Town killed Bakhtiar, aged 26 and Tahir Shah, 50.
Muhammad Asif, aged 5, drowned in rain water in Abdur Rehman Goth in Hawksbay.
Police said a man identified as Noor Muhammad son of Azhar Rehman died of electrocution near Akbari Mosque in Bangali Para, Korangi Town. KESC staffer Qalandar Baksh, 38, son of Muhammad Hasan; Abdul Reham, 19 and; Muhammad Wali, 20, son of Abdul Qadir died in similar incidents of electrocution in different areas.
A father and son were also electrocuted in Shireen Jinnah Colony besides Adnan, aged 40 in Nasir Colony, Korangi.
A boy named Hamza, 12, was also electrocuted in Latifabad area of Hyderabad.
Eleven people were injured when a wall of a house collapsed near Hamdard University in Manghopir area.
Dozens others were also wounded in separate incidents of collapsing of walls and electric polls.
