So, you fell victim to wanting to be in the sparklingly white teeth gang!
It’s strange isn’t it - all of a sudden you see celebrities and actors on TV with perfect white teeth and no matter how hard you try to be happy with your natural off-white versions, the temptation to have whiter teeth is too much to resist.
Why did you want a home bleaching kit?
I wanted to try the home bleaching because a friend was bragging about it. She suffers from sensitive teeth, but found that the home bleaching kit from the dentist didn’t aggravate her teeth so much. The laser or light teeth whitening procedures do give a result quicker, but they are also much more expensive.
Which dentist did you visit?
I always find it a bit daunting visiting a new doctor or dentist in Dubai - as I am never quite sure of the standard - but Tower Clinic at Dubai Healthcare City came highly recommended.
It’s a spotlessly clean and very modern looking clinic and my dentist was a friendly Italian lady called Doctor Silvia Da Ronch.
What does the dentist do in order to prepare a home bleaching kit?
First of all Silvia examined my teeth and recommend doing a quick professional clean before getting fitted for the teeth moulds.
To get the teeth shape, Silvia asked me to bite down on a piece of dentistry ‘clay’ for about two minutes. Once you have done this it captures the exact shape of your bottom and top sets of teeth. This is then sent off to the lab and comes back as thin teeth moulds. It takes no more than 24 hours to get the moulds back. When I collected mine the next day, Siliva showed me how to apply the bleach in the mould and explained what to do.
So what do you do?
There are different bleach strengths. Silvia gave me bleach at 15 per cent strength, but said if I felt it was too strong she could swap it for a lesser strength. She said that for ten days I should put the bleach in the moulds and wear them overnight while I slept. Then after ten days I should have pearly whites.
Did you follow these instructions?
The first night I tried the bleach I left the moulds in all night. The next day my teeth were a little sensitive so I didn’t put the moulds in the following night. I followed this pattern for two weeks, because my teeth definitely felt sensitive after the bleach. Not painful sensitive, but a little uncomfortable.
I also didn’t leave the moulds in the whole night - usually for just four hours or so.
Was the mould uncomfortable to wear?
Not at all - it’s super thin so it’s not like wearing a big gum guard or something. It didn’t stop me from sleeping.
How was the result?
Good. My teeth are a lot brighter, but they are not ridiculously white, which is what I wanted. I didn’t want the fake ‘super-white’ look.
I just wanted to liven up the off-white colour and the home kit does this well. The good thing also is that now I have the moulds and can buy the bleach anytime again from a dentist and top up whenever I want.
